An additional site offered to us by an international client, Bakkafrost Cairndow is a the packing and shipping plant for the South Highlands region of their operations.

A unique point of the companys’ operation is that their locations tend to be extremely remote.

The company’s headquarters decided to expand its phenomenal network VPN across all sites. By working with them to create a specific subnet for their Access control, we have been able to roll out their ProAccess Space software across multiple sites. as such they not only reduce the overall cost of separate softwares at each site; but also all sites can be monitored and audited by the designated department at their headquarters on the Faroe Islands.

The client required us to install within a very tight time-frame, prior to the end of the month we were already in, at which point we jumped onto Salto and persuaded them to send us the hardware required within record time! Within three weeks, we had arrived on site, and finished the installation.
Following on from the installation, not three days later; we had a call to discuss some serious issues with the system, on the manufacturing entrances.

The readers on the manufacturing area wall were borderline unresponsive, and at best, intermittent. Whilst we attempted to solve it remotely, with Salto Technical providing us as much support as possible; it became apparent that this wouldn’t be possible. The remote nature of the customer determined that we needed to
make our way back to site urgently to investigate. We booked a next-day flight to Glasgow, and made our way over as early as possible.

Running numerous tests and resets proved completely inconclusive, and as such our engineer on site spent a long time looking at potential causality, via videochat with our Directors and eletrical engineers. Through process of elimination we finally determined that the surface that the readers were mounted
to, corrugated steel cladding; and the added interference of a 24-hour-a-day robotic factory line with tremendous vibration meant that realistically, there was a possibility that the two adverse issues might be combining to prevent the readers from working.

A short test, using credentials on the reader whilst away from the wall – confirmed this. Once the potential cause was established, we instructed the engineer to create a small backing plate, made of rubber; to mount the readers to, which in turn appeared to prevent the issue from reocurring.Three months post-installation, and no one has been able to reproduce the fault.

Many customers barely notice when everything goes right, and so sometimes it’s about how you respond to, and how you fix a problem.

The keyless options are limitless, and we’re here to explore them for you.
